Second Annual Twinkle Tour Dec 19th.

Muenster Twinkle Tour Set for a Second Year

The fence-long train display is just one of the highlights of this year’s Twinkle Tour in Muenster.

The first Muenster Twinkle Tour, held in the midst of COVID-lockdowns last year, met with such success that the Village of Muenster along with Hotel Muenster didn’t hesitate to fire it up for a second year. The walking or driving tour is slated for the village on December 19, starting at 6:30 pm.

Mayor Scott Davis says that last year’s tour was born out of a need for the community to celebrate the season at a time when it was tough to get together.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better night. The weather was perfect and everybody was excited about coming out and enjoying it. We thought it was so good that we’d do it again this year.”

Pedestrians lined the streets checking out the sparkling lights and visiting with neighbours, friends and families, many of whom had been separated for months.

As was the case last year, walkers and visitors can pick up a tour map of the village from the Hotel Muenster prior to their tour. Participants can purchase hot chocolate or wings and ribs to enjoy while they vote for their tour favourites. Davis says that many residents have upped their game when it comes to this year’s light displays, some rivalling the illuminating zeal of Chevy Chase’s iconic house in the Movie Christmas Vacation.

“We’ve got a few ‘Griswolds’ here as I like to call them.  People take pride in their Christmas decorations, and the Village put a nice display up outside their office too.”

Across the street from the Village Office on Railway Avenue is a new feature, a lighting display in the pine and spruce trees that have long stood adjacent to the railway. The lights are an early Christmas present thanks to a contribution from the Muenster Elks.

“We’re hoping to make a green space in the near future too,” explains Davis, “So this is just the start of many things to come in Muenster.”

A gingerbread house building competition is another of the new features of this year’s tour. Constructed houses can be dropped off at the Hotel by 4:00 pm on December 19. Then as residents come through to pick up hot chocolate and eats, and to vote for their favourite light displays, they can also vote for their choice of gingerbread house. Visitors to the Hotel are also invited to buy a present from the present wall with half the proceeds going to the Muenster Disaster Fund.

Weather permitting, the Village will also have an outdoor firepit in the Community Centre parking lot for residents to stop by and warm up. Skating will be free at the newly constructed outdoor

rink beside the Curling Rink.

It’s a great time to catch up with old friends and enjoy the splendour of the season at this year’s Village of Muenster Twinkle Tour on December 19.
